I was working with System Center Service Manager (SCSM) and I ran into a problem where the" System Center Management Service" was not starting on the SCSM Management Server. The specific error was "The System Center Management service terminated with service-specific error %%-2130771964."
This was preventing workflows in SCSM from running, which can be a big problem.
In troubleshooting it I validated the permissions of the service and also tried changing accounts. I finally decided that I would have it start from scratch and knowing the common platform with Operations Manager, I renamed the folder "c:Program FilesMicrosoft System CenterService Manager 2010Health State Service"
folder on the management server. I then restarted the "System Center Management Service". At this point the service started successfully and regenerated the Health State Service folder.
This shows the state after starting the service successfully again:
Go and continue management!
