Concurrency Interns Volunteer at Feeding America

Author by Trevor Suarez

A few weeks ago, Concurrency interns based in Brookfield volunteered at Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin in Milwaukee. Feeding America is an organization of food banks across America. They accept unwanted food from grocery stores and distribute the food to food pantries, soup kitchens, and people in need. Most of the time grocery stores donate the food because the food sat on the shelf too long or was past its expiration date.

While volunteering, we learned that manufacturers of non-perishable food items put an expiration date on food sometimes 6 months to a year earlier than the food actually expires. That means most of the “expired” food grocery stores are donating is still safe to eat!
